through a birthday party for her, with a group counting down to the cutting of the cake.

a cake adorned with Union Jacks, and a massive bell.

And there it is. I would prefer a calling the caterpillar cake myself. It's all very, very weird. And who doesn't count down to a cake cutting, let alone of a dead person?
