It's often difficult to trace the origins of certain stories of the strange and paranormal.

For example, all across the globe and throughout history, you can find legends of elusive,

hairy, eight-man hominids.

So therefore, it's pretty difficult to say who first came up with the idea of Bigfoot.

Likewise, throughout medieval Europe, you can find tales of small, humanoid creatures

who can often be categorized under the overarching term, changelings.

These creatures were believed to steal children and replace them with a look-alike copy,

a copy that was very similar to the original child, but still not quite right.

Many Poland, Russia and many other countries all have legends of such creatures, each giving

them their own local flavor in characteristics.

But it's from Ireland where we get another word for such creatures that we know much

more commonly today.
