Hey gang, it's me, Dr. Steve, and we've got another Democrat defecting to the Republican Party.

Texas Democrat Kyra Talip Sanchez, as officially announced, that she's become a Republican after having served as a Democrat for the last eight years.

Sanchez specifically cited the horrific crisis at the southern border as the rationale for her switch stating, quote, there is an unprecedented crisis at our southern border.

I believe that the GOP's policies of law and order protecting safety and backing the blue best align with my values and the values of the citizens of Claiburg County.

I look forward to working with my colleagues to keep South Texas safe.

Now, Sanchez's party switch is actually part of a much larger trend in South Texas where voters are more and more siding with the Republican Party.

Again, after decades of loyalty to the Democrat, southern Texas is historically one of the more reliably blue sections of the Lone Star State being heavily Latino.

But now we're seeing southern Texas turning more and more red back in June of 2021.

I report on several mayoral races in southern Texas and their highly blue Democrat districts, and to the shock of politicians and pundits alike, the GOP candidates swept every single one of them.

The most shocking win was in McAllen, Texas, which is 85% Latino.

No Republican is won there since 1997, but the GOP candidate Javier Villalobos beat his Democrat challenger in a region that had voted for Biden by nearly 20 points.

It was an absolute shock of an election.

And in November of that year, Texas House seat in a San Antonio district that's 73% Latino that voted for Biden by 14 points flipped for conservative Republican, a flip that represented a 15 point shift towards the Republicans in that district alone.

And then, of course, you had the special congressional election the following year when Republican, myroflora, flipped a Texas House seat that had been Democrat for decades.

So, Sanchez's defection is actually part of a larger trend of southern Texas going Republican.

And of course, that trend is itself part of the larger trend among Latinos who are more and more defecting to the Republican party, even the ultra-left Washington Post is admitting this trend.

Trump won half the Latino vote in Florida back in 2020.

He improved his performance among Hispanics by 20 points in Wisconsin, 18 points in Texas and 12 points in Arizona and Pennsylvania.
