And today we're going to be in Matthew, chapter 2, and Luke 2.

We're looking at the birth of Jesus and his youth and we're going to look at Luke

2 first because it seems to be chronologically before Matthew 2.

And so in Luke chapter 2, we read that there's this guy named Caesar Augustus, it's going

to tax the whole world.

Now that's Octavian and he's going to be given this name Caesar Augustus and he does,

there is evidence historically of him taxing massive portions of the Roman Empire.

And so Joseph's going to his hometown, which is Bethlehem, south of Nazareth.

Nazareth is up in Galilee and so he's making the southern route down to Bethlehem which
