Japan's long march of aggression in China going back to 1931

was now reaching a crescendo.

They were able to extend their reach from Manchuria,

or Manchuqua as they printed it on their postage stamps, and from that base, they later went on to seize the key cities of North China,

most importantly, Beijing and Tianjin.

Then we saw how Jiang Khai Shk took the fight to the Japanese down in Shanghai,

and needless to say, the NRA did not prevail in that conflict, but Japan's expected knockout of China's military early in the first round ended up dragging on for much longer than Japan expected.

And that was the key point about the Battle of Shanghai.

Now it was over,

and three Japanese armies had marched on Nanjing

and had the place surrounded.
