I sat down in Washington the other day with Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic leader of the

House for my Axviles TV show.

Here is an extended version of that conversation in which we talked not just about her life

and career, but about the raft of issues that are oiling Washington today.

We are here at Trinity Washington University, which I know leader Pelosi has a great place

in your heart and your history, but as I welcome you, I want to ask you about some more

contemporary issues.

One being this famous meeting that you had with President Trump recently in the Oval

Office, the leaders meeting, you and Chuck Schumer, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, at which

you were discussing the budget.

And you went in expecting one kind of meeting and it turned it to a different kind of meeting.

What exactly happened in that office when you were able to strike a deal with the President?

Well, we didn't.

We knew what we, Chuck Schumer and I knew what we were bringing into the meeting.

So that was no surprise.

He said in advance and told them that we wanted three months for the debt ceiling.

This is pretty inside baseball.

Yes, right, but took a shorter deal on extending the debt and a shorter budget.

What was different about the meeting was that instead of just being leadership of the

Congress House and Senate Democrats and Republicans, Secretary Mnuchin, Secretary of Treasury
