Hello, everybody. Welcome to this special episode of the Tom Wood Show that will consist

of a discussion between two eminent scholars, Dr. Martin Koldorf and Dr. Eric Topel.

They will be discussing the optimal public health approach to the challenge posed by COVID-19.

We're going to do something a little bit different in this discussion.

Each participant will have an opportunity for an opening statement,

laying out his position, and then each will respond to the other statement.

And after that, I will disappear into the background entirely and allow these two gentlemen

to ask questions of each other and continue the discussion.

Once the conversation appears to have run its natural course or a certain amount of time has

passed, I will re-emerge and give each person the opportunity for a final word.

I want to be as impartial as possible, so the biographical information I will read

was supplied by the participants themselves.

Dr. Martin Koldorf is a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.

His research centers on developing new epidemiological and statistical methods

for the early detection and monitoring of infectious disease outbreaks

and for post-market drug and vaccine safety surveillance.

Dr. Eric Topel is a professor of molecular medicine at Scripps Research,

founder and director of its Translational Research Institute,
