0:55.9	role in shaping public perception and potentially the outcome of the trial. So on the night of
1:02.5	March 3rd, 1991, Rodney King, an African-American man, was driving with two passengers through
1:09.0	L.A. Rodney was on parole for robbery and had been
1:12.3	drinking, leading him to fear returning to prison if he was caught driving under the influence.
1:17.2	So when California Highway Patrol officers Tim and Melanie Singer noticed Rodney speeding,
1:22.8	they attempted to pull him over. Rodney then led them on a high-speed chase, reaching speeds of up to
1:28.6	110 miles per hour. The chase ended when he exited the freeway and pulled over in a residential
1:34.7	neighborhood. By this time, several LAPD units had joined the pursuit, and among the officers
1:40.2	were Lawrence Powell, Timothy Wind, Theodore Braseno, and Stacey Coon, who took
1:45.8	charge of the situation. What happened next would become a critical moment in American history.
1:52.1	After exiting his vehicle, Rodney King was ordered to lie face down on the ground, and
1:57.0	initially he complied, but then he allegedly resisted by trying to get up.
