Susie has loved reading for as long as she can remember. Some of her fondest childhood memories involve long afternoons at the library and then reading late into the night. More than ten years ago, she began journaling about the books she read and turned that passion into writing about books. Her first forays were as a guest reviewer on a friend’s blog, but she soon realized she wanted to be reviewing and talking about books on a blog of her own. From there, Novel Visits was born. That was in 2016 and, though the learning curve was steep, she loves being a part of the book community. Novel Visits focuses on new novel reviews (print and audio), previews of upcoming releases, and musings on all things bookish.

debuts. Well, this was originally your idea. Yeah. For anyone that's new to the show, I think I've said that

before, but to remind everybody. All right, here's how today's going to work. We are going to talk

about how debuts have worked for us this year in general. And then we're going to

get into debuts and sophomore novels we loved and divided into three categories. Number one,

we're going to share some of our favorite 2024 debuts. Number two, we're going to share a

couple backlist debuts that we've loved. And number three, we're going to share a couple of our

favorite sophomore novels of 2024. So starting off with our 2024 debuts and themes. To me,

this year feels like a bit of a down year for debuts, but the numbers don't actually support that.

Yeah, I was really surprised when I went in and looked at my tracker and looked at all my

stats because I had had this overwhelming feeling that debuts just hadn't been great for me

this year.

And I also thought I hadn't read as many debuts this year as in the past, but I'm actually

right on my number for last year,

which is 27 so far. And so far, debuts are 39% of my overall reading. And is that about what

they've been in the past? Slightly up from 2023. Oh, wow. You were way off. I know, right? And actually,

reading that's debuts. I tied it in 2019, but like 39 percent is my career high. Wow. So goes to show
