Summary

On this special bonus episode, we're talking to Michelle McKnight a Destination Specialist with Touring Plans about Disney Cruise Line's announcement to delay the Maiden Voyage of the Wish to July 14, the DVC charter sailing immediately following to July 19, and the cancelaton of a dozen cruises that were to follow in the six weeks following the maiden voyage and DVC sailing. Why did Disney decide to delay? What is it doing for impacted passengers? Does it impact other sailings in the fleet? And does this mean more slots might become available on the coveted Maiden sailing? We answer all that are more. I think, I mean, like you said, it's COVID, so we all have kind of just come to expect things,

0:05.1

but just kind of stinks because we have to move everything around again for different people.

So.

Welcome back, everybody, to a very special, although a bit sad episode of the DCL Duo podcast with big announcement today. So we wanted to record a quick episode to talk about

0:34.1

the announcement today about the wish being delayed, the maiden voyage on the wish was delayed today. And we want to do that with a little bit of help. And so we always talk on the show about how much we love touring plans and that we use them and that we have, you know, a lot of love for our travel specialist over there. And lo and behold, Michelle McKnight is joining me this evening, our very own travel specialist. So thank you, Michelle, for coming on to talk with us today. Yeah, sure. I wish it was under better circumstances,

0:59.0

but happy to talk about it with you. Yeah. So let's just start with what the announcement was, right?

1:04.5

So Disney Cruise Line has announced that due to some delays at the shipyard in the building process,

1:10.1

they need to move the delivery date of the

1:12.1

wish or the maiden voyage of the wish out by about six weeks. So the maiden voyage that was due to

1:16.4

take place on June 9th will now happen on July 14th. And the DVC charter cruise, which was a special

1:22.5

cruise happening right after the maiden voyage, has also been moved out and will now start on July 19th. So that's the

1:30.3

announcement. Let me just start, Michelle, because I have some thoughts here, but let me start with.

1:34.3

Are you surprised that it got delayed? No, no. I was really hoping they had kind of put in a buffer

1:39.7

of six weeks, you know, 10 weeks. I don't know, with all the COVID. I mean, they knew when they

1:44.5

launched it last year with us having booking reservations. You know, they already knew COVID was here. So I was hoping they added that extra window, but obviously they didn't. Or they did and it just wasn't enough. Right. Yeah. Not quite enough. Right. Yeah. I mean, I will say this. I've seen some, I've seen a range of emotions online from, you know, look, some people and I count myself in this group, you know, it's not a welcome announcement, but it certainly is not terrible for us, especially with the discount that we'll talk about in a second to, you know, people who are a little disappointed with it, but just kind of whatever. And then, you know, some people who are pretty frustrated with it.

2:18.2

And I guess I just will address that latter group for a second.

2:20.9

I don't think Disney can control spread of COVID.

2:24.1

And I don't think that they can control the global supply chain issues that many businesses are facing.

2:28.3

Or the labor challenges that a shipyard like mayor were maybe facing given the COVID situation in Germany.

2:32.3

So I think in the age of COVID, we should all just plan for potential travel and vacation disruption and make that part of our life. And so I am not surprised at all to see this announcement. I am actually more surprised that they're only delaying it by six weeks. So I talked to a few people while the announcement was going on and the rumors were trickling out.

2:51.2

And several of them were like, I can't believe it's not like three months or six months or something like that. Yeah, six months. I mean, it seems like a long time. But really, it's, I mean, just literally a month later. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, the six weeks is just is, it's going to go right by. So, yeah. I will also, I will also say not great from the standpoint of there are some additional costs. And we'll talk about the DVC crews separate here in a second. I get there are additional costs to rebook your vacation and the planning that's gone into it. The good news, right, Michelle, is they're offering discounts. So what are the, what are the options for people who are currently booked on the Maiden Voyage who are impacted by this?

3:25.5

Yeah.
