I don't know, but he didn't show up today.

So we're doing this without him.

So my sometimes writing partner, Daniel Abraham, jumped in at the last minute and agreed to help out.

And what we are going to talk about today is Daniel has been doing a watch of, is it the top 100?

It is a, a list is a top 100, noir films of all time.

Yeah, top 100 noir films of all time.

Right.

As laid out by Paste magazine.

So we've been talking about noir, so we're going to talk about noir here.

And in the process of discussing how we would approach it, we thought it might be interesting to sort of frame it between M, the Fritz-Lang masterpiece from 1931, which is often described as a proto-noir,

like the first noir, or among the first noir sort of films.

And then one of my personal favorites, Dark City,

which is often described as neo-noir,

the sort of the 90s revisiting of noir, but with, you know, modern sensibilities and

then in that case in a sci-fi setting, but still has that sort of more noir tone to it.

So why? Why a hundred noir movies, Daniel? Well, the, the way that that happened was I was

in a place kind of creatively where I was feeling exhausted,

and I was just, I was looking for ways to refill the well, like reading more, watching more movies,
