Summary

In this episode, I’ll share how to navigate the next four years with peace and resilience. We’ll explore the beauty of Japanese homes and how they inspire creating more space—both physically and mentally—in our lives. I’ll talk about why it's essential to stop paying attention to the chaos of "Idiocracy" and focus on what truly matters. Learn the power of giving yourself more time, making self-care a priority, and investing in your well-being. I’ll discuss the importance of setting boundaries and how they help create a peaceful, balanced life. Meditation and deep breathing are key tools for creating space, managing stress and staying grounded—I'll guide you through these practices. Remember to stay in your own lane—you don’t need to do what others are doing, and that’s perfectly okay. Finally, I’ll remind you to stay curious and kind, no matter how others may behave around you. Let’s dive in and create more peace and resilience together xx thank you for listening xx Candice

Hi friends. Welcome to the Wabi-Sabi podcast. This is episode number 175. We're going to find a way to get

0:09.8

inner peace and resilience for the next four years together. A topic I've spoken with the girls at

0:18.4

workout class to friends and family, New York, L.A., everywhere in between.

0:26.7

I understand we're not going to talk about politics on this pod, but we can certainly talk about

0:31.7

how to improve each other's lives and take pause for four years. This is going to be challenging. So I think if we're prepared

0:40.6

at the beginning of the four years, that's what this podcast is for. I would love for you to share it

0:45.7

with a friend right now that you know needs to hear it. You know, back in 2016, I remembered saying

0:53.4

to a friend at the Bar Method in Soho at the time in New York,

0:58.3

Shikata Kanai, and I taught her this saying in Japanese that means it cannot be helped.

1:05.8

This is a phrase that you can use any time things are not really going your way.

1:13.9

I will say that the practice of shikata kanai, meaning also in Okinawa in terms, don't care so much. This is a really important

1:23.4

way for one to find inner peace and calm while knowing that a lot of things in life are out of

1:31.5

your control and you can't necessarily do a lot to change it. So you may as well change the way

1:37.6

that you feel about it and how you look at it. So that is a practice that we're going to have

1:43.3

to do for quite some time. So remember the

1:46.5

Okinawan practice, Shikata Kanai. It's a chapter in my book, Kinsugi Wellness. I studied out in

1:53.3

Okinawa with my sister for a while. We went there together just us and learned from a beautiful

1:59.9

Okinawan woman where she taught me that

2:02.6

Okinawan women had so much going on that they just did not care about external things that

2:10.2

happened to them. They couldn't be, you know, they couldn't be bothered. So that's a great

2:15.5

mindset for you to have, keep yourself really occupied with other

2:20.3

things. I'm going to bring up the concept in Japanese in which we call ma-ma. It refers to
