Summary

In this special episode of the Sharp End, Ashley speaks with Ryan Montoya, a 23-year-old student who had the strength, skill, and fortitude to survive a terrible mountaineering accident on March 15, 2017. Just below the summit of 14,018-foot Pyramid Peak in Colorado, during a solo winter ascent, Montoya fell more than 1,500 feet down the remote east face, then made his way back toward the road over the next three days, despite serious injuries. We've given extra time to this episode to let Ryan tell his amazing story in full detail. 1:15.8	and introduce yourself? Sure I'm Ryan Montoya I'm a student currently at
1:21.9	CU Boulder I've been living in Colorado for about five years now and a bit of an amateur mountain climber and in the last two months I had an accident on Pyramid Peak.
1:35.0	And where is Pyramid Peak?
1:36.9	It's right by the Maroon Bells, so pretty close to Aspen.
1:41.3	Okay, is that a 14 or?
1:43.4	It is, yeah, so it's a, yeah, 14,000 foot peak, one of the more technical ones I would say, as a lot of those are in the Aspen area.
1:55.0	Some pretty loose crumbly rock, but a beautiful area, so definitely one worth visiting.
2:02.0	And were you out there by yourself? Yeah I was by myself. This
