Welcome to the Nordic mythology podcast, I'm Daniel Farund, I'm the company horns of Odin and today I'm joined by Ella Sheikova and we're going to talk about Loki I believe.

Yeah, hi I'm Ella I'm a second year PhD student at the Humboldt-Ivazite in Berlin. I'm glad to be here.

Yeah, thank you for joining.

So what do you do you want to just give a quick rundown about what we're going to talk about what the

episode is mainly going to focus on?

Sure, well, I'm writing my thesis on Loki and I'm looking at pretty much anywhere

that Loki comes up in Old Norris' texts and I'm looking at the actual manuscript source material rather than printed

editions of these texts and then I'm looking at how Loki's gender kind of comes

through and how Loki interacts with gender boundaries and what that means for kind of gender in these types that Loki's in.

Mm-hmm. that Locusts in. I feel like it's going to be a fascinating episode and we're going to have some fun with it.

I hope so. Yeah, I mean, Locust is certainly one of the most fascinating characters I think within all of Nordic mythology.

He's whether people love him hate him for whatever he's he's certainly a

a prominent and very involved figure yeah he's one of the more common characters that show up in edit poems and then in parts of what's usually printed as the prose editor.

So Gil-For-Ginnings and Stahl's-upon-Mahl.

Yeah, he gets up to a lot of mischief.

Lives up to his name.

Absolutely.

So how often does he appear compared to Odin or the big hitters if you were like is he

appear in I know a lot of texts. Yeah, so he appears in seven Edic poems and he has quite a few stories in

Gil beginning and in Stalskap and Moll parts of the ProZeta and he's not quite as prominent maybe as Odin and Thord.

I haven't really looked closely at the other two

and so I can't tell you exactly
