Welcome back for another episode of Reality Life with Kate Casey.

Today's episode is about Abandoned on Hulu.

On April 22nd, 1984, three children appeared alone at a train station in Barcelona, Spain.

They were six, four, and two years old. Their names were Ramon,

Ricard, and Ervida. They didn't know their last name. They didn't know their parents' names.

They did not know why they were sitting on a bench at the Estacio de Franca without an adult.

But what they did know was that a man named Denny, a friend of their fathers,

had sat them down, told them he was going to get them candy, and he never came back.

The children spoke only French, and they said they were from Paris. Station workers found

them. Child services took them in, and then something happened that would define the next 40 years

of their lives. Nobody came to claim them. Not that day, not that week, not ever. They were eventually

adopted by two educators in Barcelona, a couple who had suffered three miscarriages before that.

Three losses, three children who needed somewhere to land. And there is a version of this story where timing reads as coincidence,

but I don't think that it does. Now, even with all that love, it did not erase the question underneath

it. They grew up, they became adults, and they carried

with them for decades the most fundamental unanswered question that a person can have.

Who are we? But also, why were we left? Now, I want you to think about what it means to not know

your own last name at the age of six,

to have a two-year-old sister who has no memory of a life before a bench at a train station,

to grow up in a city that is not the city you came from, in a family that is not the family

you were born into, with a past that exists somewhere, in France, in Belgium, but that you cannot access because the
