I first met George Stephanopoulos when he was a young deputy to Governor Bill Clinton

of Arkansas, who was running for president.

George trailed behind him thick, coke-bottle glasses and an even thicker file of papers

under his arm.

He went on to great prominence as a key to that election victory and top White House

age during the first term of Bill Clinton.

And then began a career in journalism that has taken him to the heights as chief anchor

for ABC News.

His Sunday show is a staple for people who care about public affairs and as host of Good

Morning America.

George is as knowledgeable and passionate about government and politics as any journalist

in the country.

He's also one of the most decent and honorable people I've ever known.

I sat down with him on a recent visit to New York to talk about where we are in our

politics and in journalism.
