But first, Rick Hahn said that the 2018 season was probably going to be the most painful part of the rebuild.

And he's probably right.

And when you look back at this season, I don't want to say they were in a no-win situation,

but it was more like a tough-to-win situation. I mean, you had a team with a whole lot of young players trying to learn how to play at the major league level.

Some of these guys are in the future plans for the White Sox, no doubt. Others, probably not.

And many of their top prospects are still in the minors not ready to come up. And when that happens,

when that happens, your margin of error at the Major League level is really, really small.

So you cannot have too many injuries or underperformances by key guys.

And unfortunately, that's what happened.

I mean, you had a Brayu get hurt, Avi Garcia, Nate Jones,

Wellington Castillo suspended for 80 games.

Plus, they had Joachim Soria, Xavier Sedano, and Luis Avalon keeping the bullpen afloat,

and all of them ended up getting traded.

So when all that happens, what's going to happen?

You're going to lose a whole lot of ball games.
