My nephew, Raymond West, had decided that it would be good for my rheumatism for me to have a

winter holiday on the island of Saint-honore. To be perfectly honest, although it was very

pleasant to sit about in the sun all day, II was beginning to get just a little bit bored.

"'I couldn't help wondering whether the major really had died a natural death.

I had taken my knitting down to the beach and found a shady place for myself.

Old Mr. Raphael was there looking painfully thin in his beach attire and giving his secretary a very hard time as usual.
