Jurors in a West Palm Beach courtroom were about to hear a family drama that seemed like

it belonged on a soap opera or a Shakespearean stage.

The themes of love, betrayal, and possibly revenge ran deep in the criminal trial that began

in 2017.

The jury was introduced to Donnie and Lanny Horowitz, who started dating when they were teenagers.

They got married in 1967, then divorced, then married in the courthouse again just before

9-11, then divorced again, and then reunited for one last time, although their relationship

was crumbling again, and then a tragedy that would take a life and land someone else

in prison.

Lanny Horowitz, a sharp-tongued lawyer and developer, projected an image of luxury and

wealth to the outside world.

Lanny and his wife Donna owned a house in Asheville, North Carolina, but the family primarily

lived in a gated community called Admiral's Cove in Jupiter, Florida, a small city on the

Atlantic coast.

It was the same neighborhood where you might see a celebrity like Michael Jordan playing golf.

The Horowitz's 5-bedroom 4200-square-foot home was a slick, architecturally modern house

with vaulted ceilings and a pool in the courtyard.
