The defendant is presumed innocent.

That's the starting point.

He's presumed innocent of these charges.

And this presumption remains with him

throughout the course of the trial,

the presentation of the evidence,

throughout the course of your deliberations,

until and unless the state has proved its case

beyond a reasonable doubt,

the defendant does not have to prove his innocence.

when George Floyd was confronted by Minneapolis police officers

after they received a call about a possible counterfeit $20 bill.

Here's what we know from the videos that were shown in court.

Officers Lane and King first approached Floyd

as he's sitting in the driver's seat of his car

in front of the cup foods at East 38th Street

and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis.

Floyd has two friends in the car with him.

Officer Lane draws his weapon

and demands that Floyd show his hands.
