Okay, the Betts bill making it a misdemeanor to furnish false news to a newspaper was signed by the governor today.

The new law reads, any person who knowingly and willfully states, delivers or transmits by any means whatsoever to any manager, editor, publisher, reporter, or other employee of a publisher, or any newspaper, magazine, publication, periodical serial, any false or untrue statement

of a fact concerning any person or corporation with the intent that the same shall be published

is guilty of a misdemeanor.

The law will become effective, September 1st.
