Hey gang, it's me, Dr. Steve. We've got an extraordinary development on the AI front.

It's an absolutely unprecedented call by Elon Musk to stop temporarily AI development precisely because of its potential dangers.

We're going to take a look at the proposal and we're going to see how it relates to a geopolitical arms race over AI, where many believe that the winner wins control of the world.

You're not going to want to miss this.

Elon Musk, along with a number of other tech leaders, are calling for a six-month moratorium on the development of AI, citing the risks that such a development poses to society.

In an open letter signed by over a thousand tech experts, they're together asking AI developers to quote,

immediately pause for at least six months, the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4, GPT-4 is the latest deep learning model from open AI, which according to the developers exhibits human level performance on various professional and academic benchmarks.

And that's the key to understanding AI at its most basic level.

AI is fundamentally all about developing computer systems that are able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision making, and translation between languages.

And so one level AI promises to define the 21st century much the same way electricity defined the 20th.

So just as all our devices have been electrified, literally all our devices, right, we even have electric toothbrushes, just like I could take any device and plug it into electricity.

So now we're going through a process where we can plug in any device and it can be codified into a kind of artificial intelligence.

What that means for toothbrushes, I have no idea, but that's also the key difference as wonderful as electrifying our appliances is that electrification didn't replace human intelligence.

Electricity in of itself doesn't necessarily replace human tasks. Sure, I could flip a switch to turn on the lights rather than light a match to burn a candle.

But AI is actually replacing human activity that it required until now real human intelligence, like computing numbers and assembling gadgets on an assembly line, flying an airplane, driving a car.

That's all being cognized by AI now. And with this revolution upon revolution, we're sitting on top of here, musk and these other tech leaders are in effect saying that these revolutions are getting way ahead of us.
