Hello and welcome to Business 300. My name is Philip Kulenshov and this is 300

seconds about business. We're all a busy people, so I have five minutes or less to get my point across.

Five minutes about Christmas.

Most businesses host some sort of a Christmas party.

Whether extravagant or simple, businesses have a company Christmas party.

But that seems a bit strange, does it not?

A company Christmas party?

I mean, it makes sense for a family to get together. Family on Christmas, enjoying dinner, gifts, reminiscing about good times. It has a ring.

Or going to church, maybe for Christmas Eve's service to celebrate Christmas. That makes sense, too. Christmas is a holiday, a holy day. It's religious. So, a church affiliation fits.

A family Christmas party? Great. A church Christmas party? Perfect.

But a company Christmas party? What do the people you work with have to do with Christmas?

What do co-workers and Christmas have to do with each other? Why have a company Christmas party?

Before answering why Christmas, we should answer why work. Employees come to work to get paid.

That's a good reason. We run a business to get paid.

We sell to customers and get paid in return.

That's a good motivation to work.

The stomach drives the man. The appetite works for him.

Pursuing a paycheck is good.

But there's a reason why the work we do translates into money in our pocket. It's not a

random phenomenon. If I lay a weld bead or brew beer or write software code, somehow by the forces of nature,

I'm able to then go buy a ham for Christmas dinner. The reason why the work we do puts money into

our wallets is because somebody else values it enough to pay us for it. The only way we can get money is if we provide something of value to somebody else.
