We're all a busy people, so I have five minutes or less to get my point across.

Character Matters has become the sort of overused adage that is neither considered nor applied.

Yes, character does matter. Of course it does.

So much so that it's measured not with intentions, but with results.

And when considering results, what matters is competence. Yes, you can have competence without character.

You can have skill without spirit.

There are plenty of examples of people who excel at their work and yet have compromising character flaws.

As a result, character matters has been used to emphasize that not only competence matters, but character does too.

If said that way, I agree 100%.

However, too much of the time, the phrase and principle is used as a way to justify incompetence,

and especially so amongst Christians in the world of business enterprise.

Sure, he might not be Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk, but at least he is faithful to his wife and is a present father.

If we had to choose, of course I'd choose success in certain roles over other ones.

However, choosing between character and competence is not only a false dilemma, it is a false hood.

You can't choose character at the expense of competence.

Not only are character and competence not mutually exclusive, real character produces real competence.

Character is not measured by person's words and intentions. It's measured by actions and results.

Actually, if a person says the right things but does the wrong ones, he stands

more condemned. Does high character demand that a man values hard work? Well, how is that value
