Eleven-year-old Mitsuko watched curiously as the villagers dumped buckets of live crabs onto the sand from boats that were tied to the docks just a few meters away.

suggested she should get back to work. She quickly plucked a crab from the pile and grabbed

the twine to bind its claws.

It was a small crab, and it looked at her with both of its crab arms raised in the air.

She giggled and flipped it around.
