I'll let you get back to work shortly. One of the critical roles in your business is the frontline manager.

This is the role of execution.

The top leader has the vision, the strategy, the plans.

Those are crucial aspects to ensure your organization is moving in the right direction.

But it's useless to know which direction you are to be moving in if you're not moving at all.

The army must be mobilized and put into action.

The mobilization is accomplished by the frontline manager.

The chiefs have the commander's intent, the generals, their strategies.

But the effort of taking that hill, holding this fort, scaling the wall, is led by the captain of the division. Whatever his title is in your business, the frontline manager is the one responsible for the execution.

When your business is smaller, this role is you.

You are the commander-in-chief, general and captain.

You are on the ground with the crew doing the work in delivering the value to your customer.

But when the business outgrows your capacity, you need to remove yourself from the ground level

so that you can see a little bit further ahead, charting the course so you're not leading your troops towards disaster.

The frontline manager is one of the earlier hires you make. The role is crucial from the start,

but as your business keeps growing, it becomes even more pivotal.

The more distance there is between you and the work itself,

the more weight there is on the frontline manager to execute well. He's the linchpin in both
