In effect, the Gospels are the gospel writers telling a story about them and Jesus.

They're telling their interpretive experience of who Jesus is.

And so you have from Mark, you know, this sort of immediate, very sort of teacherly Jesus, who also, you know, heals people,

and then there's the, you know, the passion narrative.

And you get Luke, you know, who's very concerned about issues of the poor and women and folks who are marginalized.

You get Matthew, who's telling an experience of a very, very,

very Jewish Jesus. And then you get John, the story of the sort of the mystical poetic Jesus.

And so you get these four portraits of Jesus, these four different pictures that are in the canonical

gospels, and that doesn't even count all the other ones that were running around in the ancient world gospel mary magdalen the gospel of peter a gospel thomas

all those things and so um but they're all accounts they're all personal accounts of who this person

who this jesus is and it's really interesting because they all claim that personal, you know, thing,

is that, oh, this was written by Luke, this was written by Mark, this was written by Matthew.

And so it's like the credibility of the whole story is based around the idea that some individual actually knew Jesus.

It's just kind of fascinating.

You know, to think of these as memoir theology.

That's what the Gospels are, memoir theology.

And so if you go to them, this idea of Savior is not really present.

You get talk of Christ being the anointed one, or you get the idea which is not quite Savior.

That's the Messiah.

And so you get this idea of Jesus being the Messiah.

And what's fascinating about that is at least in a couple places, Jesus, like the gospel
