Considering what to speak about tonight, feeling the energy of the retreat and the people

in interviews today and so forth, last night Sharon spoke a lot about loving kindness toward

oneself in the world and before that it was the four most difficult things and before

that it was the four noble truths with the emphasis on suffering.

It seemed like it was time for something uplifting and inspiring.

I went to India this winter as I told some of you I believe partly to practice on my own,

but also in traveling to collect audio tapes, interviews with some great masters in India

on the question of spirituality and social responsibility and as well to do some filming

for a short video piece.

Interviewed lots of people, Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama, basically it was a good excuse

to go and hang out with some really extraordinary people.

One group of people that we interviewed, people I was working with, were associates of Gandhi,

people who'd worked closely with him in his time.

He was quite extraordinary, not only was he very much the central figure of this century,

if not in our time, of application of Dharma to worldly life and politics and the kinds

of social governmental problems, but also he was an incredible ecologist.

He really was concerned about ecology on all levels and he was an incredible economist
