Summary

You think our elections are divisive today? Well, Texas is just continuing a long tradition of candidates running hard and stirring the pot. In the Republic of Texas the presidential term was only two years, so the elections came frequently. They were contentious to say the least. Old enemies became worse enemies, and the name-calling was classic. Here about an early Texas presidential election in this episode of Wise About Texas.

0:17.5	Things have been extremely busy and Wise about Texas World Headquarters. We had a major
0:22.6	computer malfunction, which I hope we have remedied. It has been a nightmare to deal with, but I think
0:29.1	we got that all fixed and been pretty busy with the Texas State Historical Association. As long-time
0:36.4	listeners know, I'm now the president of that
0:38.1	association, at least through March. And we've made tremendous progress, as much progress
0:43.9	as we've ever made in the history of the association. It's 129 years old over the last couple
0:50.0	of years. And we're getting ready for our big annual meeting, which will be in Houston this year.
0:56.5	The dates are February 27th through March 1st in Houston. The program has been finalized.
1:04.3	It's an extremely good program, very diverse historical topics, all of which I think will be interesting to listeners.
1:13.4	We're going to have another huge gala.
1:15.6	We had a big one last year, raised more money than we've ever raised.
1:18.5	We're going to blow it out this year and do even better.
1:21.3	And we're going to have a very unique opportunity for a Texana auction at the end of the meeting and this is going to be a very
1:30.1	serious auction of Texas art and artifacts and you are not going to want to miss it so go to
1:36.6	the Texas State Historical Association website it's tsha online.org and sign up for that annual meeting.

1:45.9	We'll be speaking at the gala, and it's going to be a lot of fun.
