Hi, everybody. Tom Woods here. We're talking today about the demise of the weekly standard,

a neo-conservative magazine that had an over 20-year run and that had a party line that,

well, we'll be talking about a bit today. We're talking about this with who else?

Paul Gottfried, the original neoconslayer, an outstanding intellectual historian

who holds a PhD from Yale University, formerly Professor of Humanities at Elizabethtown College.

He was also a Guggenheim recipient, and he is the author of many books, including the strange

death of Marxism, after liberalism, Leo Strauss and the

Conservative Movement in America, and more. Paul, welcome back to the show.

Well, thank you for inviting me back. We're very rarely together on a happy occasion,

but this is an exception as we anti-mourn the passing of the weekly standard.

So, you know, there will be excuses for why it happened and this and that.

And as we've already seen, people on the center left are mourning its passing

and talking about how senseless it is that we should lose this magazine.

And it was a voice of sober and sane conservatism, which these are all damning words.
