Summary

Guest Info/Bio:This week I welcome the incredible Kate Bowler, PhD! Kate is a New York Times bestselling author, podcast host, and a professor at Duke University. She studies the cultural stories we still ourselves about success, suffering, and whether (or not) we’re capable of change. At age 35, she was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage IV cancer, causing her to think in different terms about the research and beliefs she had been studying. She penned the New York Times bestselling memoir, Everything Happen for a Reason (and Other Lies I’ve Loved), which tells the story of her struggle to understand the personal and intellectual dimensions of the American belief that all tragedies are tests of character. Kate hosts the amazing podcast, Everything Happens where she’s spoken with people like Malcolm Gladwell, Matthew McConaughey, and Anne Lamott about what wisdom and truth they’ve uncovered during difficult circumstances. Kate’s work has received wide-spread media attention from NPR, The Today Show, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The TED Stage, and Fresh Air with Terry Gross. Guest Links:www.katebowler.com Instagram: @katecbowler Twitter: @katecbowler Facebook: @katecbowlerSpecial music by Lydia LuceThe songs heard were: “Sausalito” from the album, Azalea and “Never Been Good,” “Leave Me Empty,” and “Something to Say” from the album, Dark RiverYou can find Lydia’s music on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, or anywhere good music is found! This episode of the Deconstructionists Podcast was edited, mixed, and produced by John Williamson Stay on top of all of the latest at www.thedeconstructionists.com Go there to check out our blog, snag a t-shirt, or follow us on social mediaJoin our Patreon family here: www.patreon.com/deconstructionists Website by Ryan BattlesAll photos by Jared HevronLogos designed by Joseph Ernst & Stephen PfluigT-shirt designs by Joseph Ernst, Chad Flannigan, Colin Rigsby, and Jason Turner. Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-deconstructionists/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
