Many Americans were celebrating on Super Bowl Sunday in 2017, but in Florida's Palm Beach County,

the sounds of gunfire from an assault-style weapon and a rifle, interrupted a laid-back

get-together over a bonfire at 1105 Mohawk Street.

Neighbors mistook the noise for fireworks.

By the end of the February 5, 2017 attack, three people were killed,

26-year-old Sean Henry, 20-year-old Kelly Doherty, and 24-year-old Brandy El-Salhe.

The party was almost frozen in time when police arrived at the crime scene,

Kelly still clutched a cigarette in her fingers.

Kelly's father was so devastated by her death he couldn't come to the courtroom.

I lost a piece of myself, a piece of my soul he wrote to the court,

calling it a nightmare that was made worse because he lived it in the public eye.

Kelly had a contagious smile and was just getting started with so much life ahead of her,

he said in the letter.

Just before her death, Brandy was excited about hitting adult milestones,

like landing a raise at work and being on the verge of turning a quarter-century old

as she phrased it to her mother.

And the day of her 25th birthday, her family buried her.

Sean's father remembered his son as someone who could tumble on the ground with little children

and then turn around and talk politely with seniors.

Sean celebrated his 26th birthday on a mission trip in Haiti, building houses for an orphanage.

And the day of his death, Sean started the morning by going to church and reading Bible verses with Sunday school kids.

Nearly 1,000 people attended his funeral service.
