Okay, so yesterday was a day of panic. Panic, because the Supreme Court of the United States held that

the Voting Rights Act, which is a very, very far-reaching and historic measure in American law,

going all the way back to 1965, it was designed to

prevent attempts to essentially keep the vestiges of segregation in the South after the Civil

Rights Act and prevent black people from voting who is meant to stop those procedures from

happening in the South that required. Southern states particularly to go through a process

known as preclearance in which their voting laws

were basically pre-cleared by the federal government. And the idea was that over time, as the country got

less racist and as states began to see better representation of black voters who historically

had been discriminated against the polls, that the Voting Rights Act would start to diminish over
