I planned to get this one uploaded when I was hanging in Beijing, for many reasons didn't get done.

But I've been back a week and now at long last I bring you another China History

podcast. Our longest episode ever, a special free bonus for making everyone wait so long.

In two previous episodes, I introduced a couple of Hong Kong tycoons, Sir Lee

Ka Singh, aka the richest man in Asia, and Sir Run Run Shaw, who will be

106 years old next month. Still going strong. Those were CHP episodes 13 and 49. Today I bring to you my

personal favorite. Sir YK. Powell, Baul Y- Yu Gang, who he was, the times he lived in and what his long list of achievements

were is what we'll look at in this podcast.

He was known as the Seaylord or the Chuan Wong.

His company, Worldwide Shipping, at its height,

owned more than 200 vessels with a dead weight tonnage

in excess of 20 million tons. This made it by far the largest

merchant fleet in the world. Compared to the size of Sir YK's worldwide

shipping fleet, the fleets of more famous Greek tycoons like Onasis, Nieurcos, as well as the

reclusive Daniel Ludwig were comparatively much smaller operations. He built up a business

empire that not only included worldwide shipping but the old and

venerable firms of Wielock-Marton and Kowloon Warf and Godown,

aka Wielock and Worf.

These large firms in turn owned all kinds of property, retail, and other assets.

People that do business in Asia have all heard of these companies.

He was a giant in business and we'll look at all that as well today but besides all that he was also a role model
