Saga and Marshall here. Welcome back to the realignment this week team realignment packed up our bags pretty bright and early and we went down to the state department

We were at a wide ranging conversation with secretary state Mike Pompeo

This was actually a really cool opportunity for us and it's because

There's nobody else who is more at the center of the realignment

I mean the realignment is about foreign policy. It's about economics

It's about technology and as America's chief diplomat Mike Pompeo interfaces with everybody from president

Xi shingping of China to the president United States. He's making policy every day on a day-to-day level

So during the episode we actually started off with a pretty cool opportunity to unpack a recent speech with the secretary gave

It was all about his articulation of what Saga were we talked about as the best sort of statement about what a Trump doctrine would look like and

It was this idea that the foreign policy of this country was founded under the idea of realism

Respect and restraint and how his critique of the foreign policy of previous administrations both Republican and Democrat

He also talks about how this isn't a political point. It's a policy point

Have failed and sort of straight from those values

So he articulated how he thinks they're implementing those three ideas

What was particularly cool is after we took a 30,000 foot view of what connecting our history and our foreign policy looks like is

We got to dig into some of the specifics on China. So China really is the ultimate realignment issues

What we talk about here all the time

But in DC and we talk about China. We're talking about trade

We're talking about intellectual property theft

It's stuff that really doesn't connect to most Americans and the way that they live their day-to-day lives

But what was most interesting is we actually got to connect to those issues by talking about the NBA and particularly about Hollywood

Yeah, and everyone's side the GM of the Houston Rockets tweeted out support for the Hong Kong protesters
