Sometime in the middle of the night John Larson woke with a coughing fit.

He didn't know what was making it so difficult to breathe but eventually whatever it was passed and he was able to roll over and fall back asleep.

He awoke again in the wee hours that Christmas morning. It was still dark outside.

Despite the throbbing in his head and the scratchiness of his throat, he knew he had to get up and start work.
