0:16.4	I've always been fascinated by Natalie Jerezko from the first time I read of her, a woman
0:24.8	born and raised in Chicago, who wound up as finance minister of Ukraine at a time of great
0:30.1	crisis for that nation.
0:32.2	Ms. Jerezko came by the Institute of Politics the other day, and I got a chance to ask her
0:37.0	about Ukraine today, the tense struggle with Russia, and what the election of Donald Trump
0:43.2	as America's president may mean for that region.

0:57.4	So the obvious question, but I'm not going to ask it yet, is how does a gal from Chicago
1:05.2	become finance minister of Ukraine, just in case there are people listening who are young
1:10.6	women in Chicago and aspire to be finance minister of Ukraine.
1:14.8	But tell me about your family, tell me how you got to Chicago or how your family got
1:19.7	to Chicago.
1:20.7	So, both of my parents are from Ukraine, and both of them fled in different ways during
1:28.1	World War II.
1:29.6	My father was from the Soviet part of Ukraine, and fled from Stalinist Soviet Union, ended
1:35.3	up in a displaced persons camp in Germany.
1:37.8	My mom actually was born in Germany because her mom was an astrobiotor or a Ukrainian who
1:43.8	was taken to work by the Nazis, and my grandmother gave birth to my mom in Germany.
1:48.4	But also they ended up in these displaced persons camp, and they were blessed from the
1:52.9	displaced persons camps to be able to emigrate to the United States of America.
