My guest today is Robert Waldinger, a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and Zen priest. He is a clinical professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, director of the Center for Psychodynamic Therapy and Research at Massachusetts General Hospital, and director of the Harvard Study of Adult Development. He is the author of numerous scientific papers as well as two books. He is a practicing psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, and teaches Harvard medical students and psychiatry residents. He is also a Senior Dharma Teacher in Boundless Way Zen. 

The topic is his book The Good Life: Lessons from the World's Longest Scientific Study of Happiness.

Thank you. Have you been to Asia? Yeah. I was in Shanghai for a meeting. I've been to South Asia. We were in Mumbai, actually, in the fall, and that was really wonderful, a great trip. But I haven't been elsewhere in Asia.

I would love to go. When I look at your background, just a little bit that I know, I have a

sneaky suspicion that you could find yourself into all kinds of interesting crevices and nooks.

especially Vietnam and Thailand, the Buddhist statues, the temples, I always feel like I'm

in another world. And I guess technically, I'm 8,000 miles away from you, so I am in another

world. Yeah, yeah. Actually, I'm mistaken. I have been

one place in Asia that I blanked out on Bhutan. I was in Bhutan just loved it in 2018. It was just a

magical place. That's an airport to land in, right? Oh, yeah. That's a landing. That's a little frightening, but so beautiful.
