Hey everybody, Tom Woods here. First things first, I've got some good news. I'm finally going to be done

with this echoey audio that I have. I decided to give in

and just get my home office carpeted. I don't want to do acoustical panels on my walls because I want

to hang things on my walls. So here I am in my new home office, but it is too echoey for the show,

so I'm getting it carpeted. So just a few more echoey episodes, and then it's

just going to be audio bliss for you folks. Well, anyway, let's get to the main topic for today.

Protectionism is in the news because of the tariffs that Donald Trump advocates, and I thought

this is a good topic for a debate. So we have two

debaters here with us today, Dan McCarthy, who is editor at large of the American Conservative

magazine, and is currently editor of the Venerable Journal, Conservative Journal Modern Age,

which was founded by Russell Kirk himself over 60 years ago.

On the other side of things, we have Gene Epstein, recently retired from Barron's, the nation's premier financial publication.
