Peterson, former Libertarian Party member turned Republican joins us to discuss

conservatism and libertarianism, where they're different and where they overlap.

I'm roaming millennial and you so much for coming on. I've been following your career for a while now and you've been pretty prominent in running for office which I think is really, really great.

Just recently you were trying to get in for Senate and you know you've identified

as part of the Libertarian Party before now you still call yourself a Libertarian but

you're part of the GOP and as someone who had their libertarian phrase but I now identify as a small

government conservative I think you know when it comes to traditional conservatism

versus libertarianism and even in terms of maybe party-wise the

Libertarian Party versus the GOP there's a lot of similarities there but there are

also some differences and I was hoping that maybe we could talk about those today

and so for people who maybe aren't really

into the nitty-gritty of what exactly libertarian is, libertarianism is just as a

philosophy how would you describe it just you know really basically?

Sure and first let me say thanks so much for having me on your show today Lauren I'm a

big fan and I would say that Libertarianism is and conservatism are distinct ideologies,

although there is some overlap.

And while the conservative movement

tends to be quite a bit larger than the Libertarian movement,

a lot of people call themselves libertarians

who don't quite understand what it means, but then again, there's a lot of people call themselves libertarians who don't quite understand what it means,

but then again there's a lot of conservatives who call themselves conservatives who don't quite
