Hi, everybody. Tom Woods here, talking about the Vietnam War today, but before I get into that, I want

to note, yes, I know that my sound is echoy since I moved into the new office, and I've

been thinking about different ways to cope with that, and none of them are repealing, so I finally

decided I'm just going to get the place carpeted. And of course, if I had known I was going to do

that, I would have gotten cheaper flooring to start with. It's going to be covered it by carpet

anyway. But I honestly think that's the easiest way to get good quality audio coming out of this podcast once again.

So anyway, I'm aware of it, and I've tried little things, and they are woefully inadequate.

So I'm going to work on getting carpeting in here, and we'll be back to the around, you know, episode 160 or whatever it is.

So anyway, but today we're very glad to welcome back to the show, Gareth Porter, who is just an

outstanding journalist, and we're going to have him talk about the Vietnam War in particular.

And I want to address the claim that the Vietnam War may, in fact, have been winnable. It's just there was a lack of

political will or if this or that had been done differently, it could have been winnable. Was there

something about it from the start that made it unwinnable? Of course, I guess it matters how we

define what it means to be winnable. In any case, Gareth Porter holds a Ph.D.

in Southeast Asian Studies from Cornell University. He's the author of numerous books,

including perils of dominance, imbalance of power, and the Road to War in Vietnam.
