Just before 9am on December 5th, 2015, a SWAT team was hovering outside the Eagle Nation's

Cycle Shop in Nino, Wisconsin.

Dispatch was giving them intel on where their suspect was inside the building.

Just minutes earlier, the Nino Police Department had responded to the area after receiving calls

that there was a man with a gun inside, and he had an unknown amount of hostages inside

with him.

And what information was that you were providing during the Calton?

Dispatch advised us that they were receiving information after those five in the Calton

if the subject had decided to get what he wanted using a search shooting vehicle.

The SWAT team also referred to as a hasty team didn't have much time to act.

They were down to one minute from when the hostage taker said he would start firing.

They quickly crept through the alley to the rear door of the building.

The door was unlocked and so they entered.

There were five officers as part of the team.

Lieutenant Thai Thompson in the front, followed by Lieutenant Sean Obrey, officer Craig

Hofer, officer John Kufel, and officer Robert Ross.

As soon as they entered, they saw two men whom they shouted at to get down.

The two lead officers, Lieutenant Thompson and Lieutenant Obrey, weren't able to see

very well, having just entered a darkly lit building from the bright outdoors, and so

they didn't notice a stairwell to their immediate right.

Both men tumbled down the stairs, leaving the remaining three officers in the doorway.

It was just seconds later when gunfire erupted.
