Summary

Guest Info/BIo:This week I have a fascinating conversation with Dan Koch. Dan got his start in professional songwriting in 2002 with his band Sherwood. They released three full albums and a handful of shorter EPs, toured the US, Europe & Japan, and generally had a great time. As that season of life ended, he settled in Seattle and began transitioning into writing music for film & TV. He’s been fortunate to work with some great people, and has landed some 80+ national TV & radio spots in about 8 years. Dan is also host of the You Have Permission, Depolarize!, and Reconstruct podcasts.Guest Links:https://www.dankochwords.com/yhp.htmlwww.dankoch.net https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/you-have-permission/id1448000113?mt=2Twitter: @dankoch Instagram: @dancokeSpecial Music By: Acceptance www.acceptanceband.com Instagram: @acceptancebandTwitter: @acceptancebandFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/acceptancebandYouTube: https://m.youtube.com/c/acceptancebandEnjoy the music?Songs heard on this episode were: “Cold Air, Midnight, Bend the Light, & Son of the City” from the brand new album, Wild, Free. You can find Acceptance music on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, or anywhere good music is sold! This episode of the Deconstructionists Podcast was edited by John Williamson and mixed and produced by Nicholas Rowe at National Audio Preservation Society: A full service recording studio and creative habitat, located in Heath, Ohio. What I found a lot with the relationship between the rapture and hell is that if you are 75 years old and your pastor is talking about heaven and hell and where would you go if you died tonight, well, you could die.

0:17.1

I mean, yeah, you might not die tomorrow, but like if you get 10 more years, you might be pretty happy. If you're 16 and you go, you're doing the math, even though your prefrontal

0:28.1

cortex isn't fully connected and you're not very good at forecasting the future, you still

0:32.4

know that you have a very small chance of dying anytime soon. So fear of hell is quite low. It's in the

0:41.3

far back of your mind, especially if you've done, if you're at all involved in your youth group,

0:46.7

if you've said the prayer, if you don't have a neurotic personality, an anxious temperament,

0:53.3

you're just not worried about hell. You're 16. You're

0:56.1

living life. You're driving around and hanging out with your friends. But if Christ could come back any

1:01.7

moment, well, now we have changed the immediacy. We've cranked up the immediacy knob of the hell threat.

1:12.0

And depending on, there's different formulations of this, depending on it, if you miss the rapture for some of these groups, you can't go to heaven anyway.

1:21.7

Everybody's gone.

1:23.0

Other groups would say, no, during the tribulation, God will still accept people into his family,

1:29.3

but it will be very hard, and it will cost you, that's usually the caveat.

1:33.7

You will be persecuted and hunted down like rats, and you'll have to go through that

1:38.8

in order to earn your spot in heaven.

1:41.0

And that's also pretty scary.

1:42.8

So it's hell, or it's a really rough,

1:46.4

probably going to be martyred, you know, publicly or something. A very scary,

1:52.7

sort of dangerous existence. And so yeah, I mean, that fear motivation just then gets

1:58.4

pumped up all the more.

2:16.0

Calling out, calling out, Satan. fear motivation just then gets pumped up all the more. Welcome to the deconstructionist podcast. I'm your host, John Williamson.

2:24.3

We are back with the last episode of October.
