Hi everybody. Tom Woods here. We are talking today to Dan McCarthy, who is editor at large of

the American Conservative magazine, where he was for many years, but he is now

editor of modern age, a very prestigious academic publication in conservative circles dating back over

60 years to when it was founded by Russell Kirk. And I wanted to talk to Dan about the first

year of Trump, looking back at

2017 and seeing what we can say about it. And there's no such thing as a dull conversation

with Dan McCarthy. So I know this will be great. Dan, welcome back to the show.

Thanks, Tom. I'm delighted to be here. Well, you've had a major change since the last time you

were on. Instead of being with the American conservative, you're now with Modern Age, which has a rather distinguished pedigree in the history of conservatism. That's right. Modern Age dates back to 1957, and it was founded by Russell Kirk. Yeah, so how about that? And Dan McCarthy is now, is it official title as

editor? That's correct. It's as simple as that, and that's the top of the mastiff.

That is really, really great. All right, I think we'll maybe talk about that a little bit later,

but people are salivating at the prospect. I don't know. I'm speculating the salivating about our discussion of

Trump and the year 2017. And there have been a lot of retrospectives, and especially because this was a,

this has been a presidency that people have not been able to pigeonhole and they didn't know what to

expect or who would be appointed or what was going to happen.

So there's a lot of talk after this first year.

Now, I have this running bet going with David Stockman, who's coming on next week, who believes that Trump will not survive 2018.
