Welcome to the Deconstructionist podcast. I'm your host John Williamson, and we are back. I finally have most of my voice back. It was pretty rough the last two weeks, so allergies or something.

0:21.9

But anyway, we are back, and this week we have a musician on. So haven't had a musician on

0:27.0

a little while. We have John Steingard on this week. If you remember the band Hawk Nelson,

0:32.8

he was, I believe, first the guitar player and then took over singing duties at some point.

0:38.7

But he is Canadian by birth, as he puts it, Californian by choice.

0:42.9

But he is also a director and filmmaker from San Diego.

0:48.1

And so he's got a really cool creative project going on where he does a lot of video work there called John Steingard Creative.

0:56.4

And we just had a really cool conversation. It's very interesting. I've always been kind of

1:00.7

fascinated with this idea of folks who kind of basically grew up spiritually within the context of a

1:09.5

quote Christian band and how how that impacts like not only

1:15.1

you know the music that you write and the and the art that you create but also you know as you

1:20.8

get older and maybe perhaps your belief system kind of changes a little bit and evolves how

1:27.4

does that look within the context of being

1:29.8

a quote Christian musician? Because there doesn't seem to be, at least from the outside perspective,

1:34.3

a whole lot of room for growth, or at least society, like giving you room for growth. So we

1:41.3

had a really cool, interesting conversation about the industry,

1:45.2

what that looks like to be a popular Christian band, and what happens when your beliefs change

1:50.7

and potentially change to the extent where maybe you no longer believe the vast majority

1:56.8

of what you once believed and what that looks like. So really fun conversation and I hope you

2:03.7

guys enjoy it. We have episodes recorded for the next couple months at least. We're working on

2:11.1

stuff for around the holidays, which is crazy to be thinking about that already. But as always, we'll try to do some

2:18.4

fun stuff for October for Halloween. I've got some ideas. We'll see if they come to pass or not.
