Hey folks, welcome to the Adventure Sports Podcast. I'm your host, Mason. Today we are talking to Denise Joy about her amazing story of being the first female pilot hired by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. And part of her job includes

0:22.6

what the title is about restocking alpine lakes by plane, restocks them with fish, with trout,

0:29.1

because a lot of people fish them and they need to be restocked. And also some of the other roles,

0:33.5

like counting wildlife, even looking out for fires, all kinds of stuff that she does from the plane.

0:38.6

And it's an amazing job. And we'll also hear she love to get out there and actually go fish these lakes and hike around in the mountains that she flies over.

0:46.3

But we're going to also talk about how she got into this.

0:50.2

You know, what does it mean to be the first female pilot hired by Colorado Park and Wildlife?

0:54.8

How she went from where she's from to Alaska to Colorado, how her very unsettled childhood

1:01.1

made her fall in love and look at nature as a refuge and his home and literally lived in nature

1:07.5

for a while, homeless.

1:09.1

And also, this story is cool because there is an associated

1:12.0

film. So if you have 15 minutes, that's all, that's as long as it is, I really encourage you to

1:17.1

check out the show notes and watch the film, Fight or Flight. And it's by Narlie Bay,

1:22.1

who I'm a big fan of. They make some awesome films. And it's, like I said, 15 minutes long.

1:27.2

It's so beautiful.

1:29.0

I mean, it's the visuals that are just unbelievable of what Denise gets to see every time she

1:34.4

goes out. And it talks a little bit more about her story and things we didn't touch on in this

1:38.5

episode. And also, she's been on some other podcasts. I encourage you to just whatever podcast app

1:43.2

you're using, search her name, and you're going to hear more of her story, different things. It was a really

1:49.1

cool conversation. And I was traveling, so I'm talking from a place I don't normally record,

1:54.7

so the audio is a little different on my end. I apologize for that. And also, we were doing a book

1:59.9

giveaway for last Monday's episode,
