guitarist and one of the primary songwriters of Los Angeles, California punk rock

band Bad Religion. Together we break down the writing, recording, and inspiration behind the single

Stranger than Fiction, taken from their 1994 and eighth full-length album of the same name.

not just from bad religion, but an instant favorite song.

The imagery detailed within the lyrics has always been fascinating to me. But to hear Brett break it

down line by line was a real treat. Talk about a whirlwind of emotions. I already knew what

the song meant to me on a personal level, but now I feel as if I'm hearing the song all over again for the first time.

I was surprised to hear that Brett composed the song out of piano and that he always writes songs the same way.

The music and melodies come first and the lyrics after that.

He found a formula and man does it work.

It was refreshing to hear the producer Andy Wallace let the band be themselves.

His strength within the project came when he

mixed the album, which at almost 30 years later still sounds amazing.
