Hi, everybody, Tom Woods here. I am on the road today heading to New York City for the

Meeses Institute's 35th anniversary event. So while I'm doing that, I'm sharing with you

this talk I gave a number of years ago at the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons' Annual Meeting, and you will be perhaps surprised at the topic I choose because a professional association of physicians, you might think, would be too timid for this sort of topic, but not those good folks

whom you can get to know at aapsonline.org. So that's all I'll say by way of setting it up,

where it describes me as Tom Woods

MD. That's a typo. But I've enjoyed basking in the prestige that comes with being a medical

doctor because of this name tag. It reminds me years ago when my family had the misfortune

of living in an apartment in New York, one of our neighbors

got some of our mail by mistake and so walked down and gave it to us and looked at the two

on the envelope and said, I didn't know you were a doctor. And again, I had that same feeling,

that brief moment, the prestige of being an empty, do I tell him the truth? Do I let him down that I'm just a PhD?

So I figured I had to because, you know, what if his wife got sick and he doesn't call 911?

He figures, hey, I got a doctor living next door and all I can do is, you know, tell him about the war of 1812 or something.
