Summary

The Romantic poets lived in an age much like ours: science was ascendant, religion was collapsing, and revolutions in mores and politics were tearing down everything that seemed certain. How did they find their way through their turbulent time—and how can we find our way through ours? In this episode of Young Heretics, Andrew Klavan joins Spencer Klavan to discuss his new book on the subject, "The Truth and Beauty."

Hello and welcome to Young Heretics' Father Sun Edition hashtag No Relations.

0:10.3

There has been some confusion on this point and I want to begin this episode by just making

0:14.4

everything absolutely clear because when I first went on Andrew Clayton's show over at the

0:21.2

Daily Wire, which was Scotch more than a year ago now, to do some segments where we would talk.

0:25.6

It seemed like we really got along and kind of knew each other and had a good relationship

0:29.8

but I really wanted to stress that I have absolutely no relationship with this foul man and his

0:36.0

evil conservative right wing views and so we began this rap art day that every time I went on he

0:41.1

was a, here's my son Spencer Clayton, no relation and so I but then people were wondering like,

0:46.5

are you guys actually related because you do have the same last name Clayton and Clayton,

0:50.0

they're spelled the same, no ease, what's going on here and I a bunch of people have actually

0:55.3

written to me, the start is a joke, I really am confused, are you guys related or not?

1:01.5

So let me just make everything absolutely clear here. My father is Andrew Clayton and we are not

1:08.5

related to one another at all and I've never met him. Hope that clears things up for you.

1:14.2

He's coming on the show today which is very exciting and I always love to talk to my dad,

1:18.8

he is actually my dad, I'm just kidding, for those of you that were confused or taken in,

1:23.5

Andrew Clayton is my father, we obviously know each other for my whole life and we more than that,

1:30.8

I think we have, it's fair to say one of the best father-son relationships around. We share a lot

1:37.2

together, we talk a lot, we used to go on hikes all the time in Los Angeles, we're not able to do

1:42.4

that as much anymore but we do have a just a really I think kind of beautiful intellectual relationship

1:48.9

with one another and I can't think of anything that I say or do or think on this podcast that is

1:56.0

in some way indebted to his thought or intertwined with his thought and I think he would actually say

2:01.8

something kind of similar about me. I mean all fathers and sons are intertwined in
