a fairly positive critical reception, which is not always the case with sequels and remakes.

But speaking of sequels and remakes, it is always a pleasure and a joy for me to continue conversation with David French,

opinion columnist for the New York Times, longtime crusader, and he won't even mind that word,

for religious liberty in the United States, and one of the clearest and most forceful and most entertaining thinkers in the country.

He has a recent column that's been getting a great deal of attention concerning the loneliness

epidemic. And it's related to another column he wrote about the role of joy in politics.

David, first of all, your headline says the loneliness epidemic has a cure.

Can you describe that cure, that prescription for the loneliness disease in brief terms?

Yeah, absolutely.

You know, one of the things that we often talk about when we're talking about fixing America,

we talk about big political five-point plans and big sweeping political reforms.

But the reality is if you actually look at what is really, really harming our nation, harming our sense

of purpose and well-being, it is this sense of loneliness and isolation.

And so I wrote one of the actually most concrete things you can do to repair our nation

is make a friend, preferably a friend who comes from a different background from you.

Because recent data is showing that, especially working class Americans, people with a high school diploma or less, are losing friendships at an alarming rate, reporting isolation and loneliness at an alarming rate.
